Groups
A Group is a saved list of apps, websites and keywords. Build it once, then switch it on anywhere.
What a Group is
Three lists under one name, colour and icon:
- Apps, from what is installed on your phone.
- Websites, as domains or pasted URLs.
- Keywords, caught anywhere on screen.
A Group blocks nothing by itself. It answers what. Something else supplies the when: you tapping Block, a Focus timer, an Action, or a widget.
That split is the point. Build the Social Media list once, and every rule you write afterwards can point at it.
The 11 built-in Groups
All 11 ship filled in, on every plan, under the Kit tab. Seven you can edit, four are locked.
Starter Groups
Fully editable. Picking one gives you a normal Group, pre-filled and yours to change.
| Group | For | Apps | Sites | Words |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Social Media | Stop the endless feed | 86 | 131 | 7 |
| Short-Form Video | Escape Reels, Shorts and TikTok | 16 | 10 | 3 |
| Streaming & TV | Break the binge-watch loop | 79 | 114 | 0 |
| Gaming | Put the games down | 130 | 143 | 302 |
| Shopping | Curb impulse buying | 254 | 385 | 240 |
| News & Doomscrolling | Quiet the anxiety scroll | 203 | 228 | 0 |
| Dating | Step off the swipe treadmill | 27 | 84 | 0 |
Content-safety Groups
Locked, and switchable one by one, so you can block gambling without blocking anything else.
| Group | Sites | Words | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Adult Content | 752,168 | 271 | Auto-catches new adult apps you install. |
| Gambling & Betting | 291,959 | 27 | Plus 20 curated betting apps. |
| Addictive Substances | 64 | 120 | Drugs, alcohol, brands and slang. |
| Violence & Gore | 20 | 27 | Graphic and violent content. |
Adult Content and Gambling are too big for the app bundle. Their lists live in a database on your phone and are checked as you browse, which is how three quarters of a million domains stays fast with no network.
Why four hide their lists
The four content-safety Groups never show their contents. Two reasons:
- Privacy. A scrollable list of adult domains does not belong on your screen.
- Relapse risk. Handing someone quitting a searchable index of what they are quitting is not a feature.
You can still add your own sites, apps and words on top, and yours stay visible. Dating is deliberately not in this set, so its list is browsable like any other.
Building your own
- Tap +, then GroupOr Create new group on the Groups screen.
- Name it, pick a colour and iconThis is what you tap on Home, so make it recognisable.
- Add apps, sites and keywordsAny mix. A Group of just websites is fine. So is one app.
- Decide about new appsAuto-add new apps puts anything you install into this Group from then on.
Free gives you one custom Group and one blocking at a time. Pro removes both limits.
Where Groups get used
Pinned to Home
One tap to block, one to unblock. The everyday use.
As a Focus list
What a Focus session blocks for its duration.
As an Action's source
Most Actions point at one or more Groups.
Behind a widget
Both widgets take a Group as what they block.
Each Group's screen lists the Actions using it, plus how many times it has guarded you, how much time it protected, and how many keywords it caught.
Editing and deleting
- A Group that is blocking is add-only. You can add to it, not remove from it, and you cannot delete it. Stop whatever turned it on first. Otherwise editing the Group would be a back door around every block built on it.
- A Group used by an Action cannot be deleted until that Action changes. The app names the Action rather than just refusing.
- Strict mode and challenges tighten this. While either holds an Action that uses this Group, you can add but never loosen.
- Every Group is deletable, built-ins included. Deleting a built-in is permanent. Only Reset app data brings the Kit back.
Sharing and export
A Group can be exported and shared, then imported by someone else or by you on a new phone. Import is on the Groups screen and in the + menu. Exporting your whole setup is Pro, in Settings, Data.
Sharing moves the list only. No usage, streak or stats travel with it, and it goes wherever you send it rather than through us.
